a still from Wolf
A few hours following our gathering underneath the peppercorn tree Annabelle Freedman is hosting a release party and screening of their short film, WOLF, which envisions how to create a consent culture. After the screening at Scribble in Highland Park, there will be three questions projected for a group of live musicians and dancers to explore through improvised sound and movement. Curious participation is encouraged!
WOLF, by Annabelle Freedman and Alexis Hunley, is a visual relic for and by survivors of sexual assault that rejects the all-too-common trauma porn and re-traumatizing visuals that often flatten this topic. Instead, WOLF is an acknowledgment of the twisted systems of violation that we live through and pull apart. This film is a practice in reaching towards the tenderness in each other.
Sliding scale presale tickets are available & a portion of proceeds will go toward Scribble's affordable mental health services. As always, no one turned away for lack of funds.
Annabelle Freedman is an ecstatic celebration of all things interdependence. When they’re not writing music, they’re teaching, and when they’re not teaching, they’re recording in friend’s ensembles, and when they’re not to be found, they’re usually masked up fighting for collective liberation in a society that does all it can to tear us down.
Through expressive vocals, violin, guitar, and anything else Annabelle & friends can get their hands on, their music is a journey best shared in community.
In addition to being a therapy center, Scribble is also a fully-equipped, 225-capacity nonprofit arts venue. They host all kinds of events that include concerts, comedy nights, film screenings, variety shows, markets, and much much more.
Scribble is a sober space, with every event prioritizing an all-ages ethos with a focus on cultivating an environment that fosters genuine connection and community. They’re largely volunteer run and bring so much care to all that they do, so if you’d like to be involved please reach their way!
