Any chance that we have to honor new music from Sharada Shashidhar is a moment to get together and celebrate. One of LA’s great vocalists & songwriters, Sharada’s albums and collaborations have transformed & transported our spirits over years. Her music has traced relationships, legacies, intuitions, interconnectedness, and in A Foot on the Ground, a deepened trust in the journey and the process that you can feel in every movement.

Recorded over the course of two years at Lucy’s Meat Market in Los Angeles, A Foot on the Ground finds Sharada playing into new roles and experimenting with tools and instruments she previously hasn’t had access to. In recording the album, she felt that her perfectionism had to take a back seat, realizing there was value and an inherent musicality in everything she did, even if it felt momentarily silly or scary. These takes were reshaped until they felt true and complete, much like a collage or a sculpture.

Throughout the album she’s joined by friends Caleb Buchanan, Timothy Angulo, Devin Daniels as well as new collaborators Mark Guiliana and Benny Bock, who helped flesh out ideas and share their perspectives. The record was created without a specific roadmap in mind, but was instead created in the room collaboratively, allowing everything that felt relevant on a given day to surface naturally.

We’re very much looking forward to gathering within the courtyard of the Audubon Center to sit with this music at sunset. Thank you to our friends of the Center for hosting us, welcoming us, and please tap in with the inspirational work that they do for Northeast LA.

Bring a blanket, a friend, a picnic,
and pull up to listen with us.
Sharada will be in ensemble this eve,
with an opening performance to be announced.

All ages & No One Turned Away.
Music begins around 6:30p.

🌿

a gentle reminder: please leave your adorable pups at home this afternoon as to not disrupt the Audubon Center’s ongoing habitat restoration efforts.

For 20+ years the Audubon Center at Debs Park has been a beacon for how conservation organizations can work within our cities to cultivate a deeper relationship between people and place. Through monthly hikes, restoration days, bird walks, field trips, movie nights, community festivals, and hosting gatherings like these each and every month, the Audubon Center at Debs Park has played an essential role in building a more diverse and inclusive conservation movement here in Los Angeles.

We’re so grateful for the humans of the Audubon Center, the advocacy that they champion in dialogue with local culture and native ecology, and it is an absolute honor to gather here together monthly.
