No Canyon Hills by Rio Asch Phoenix
“At the northern edge of Los Angeles city limits, there is a 300-acre piece of wild land. It is home to oak trees and sagebrush, year-round water, gullies and streams and mountain lions. It is the ancestral homeland to the Gabrielino-Tongva and Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians. It is now slated for imminent development into a luxury gated community called ‘Canyon Hills’.” - Rio Asch Phoenix
Very much looking forward to joining our friends Rio Asch Phoenix & No Canyon Hills for a group hike above the proposed development site in the Verdugo Mountains. We’ll take breaks for tea, for listening to birdsong, for discussion, and to hike in solidarity with one another. This gathering is in conversation and relation with the inspiring ongoing work of No Canyon Hills and Rio’s photography exhibition, While Light Still Falls Here, which ran from January 18 - February 2nd, at Monte Vista Projects. We hope you had a chance to drop in!
All donations will be sent to No Canyon Hills urgent legal defense fund.
“The wholesale ecological viability of the Verdugo Mountains ecosystem is at stake.”
