Resonance: A Yoga & Sound Journey is a monthly practice led by Qur’an Shaheed that blends movement, breath, and live music outdoors to deepen the mind-body-nature connection. This immersive experience weaves together flowing asana, guided breathwork, and intuitive soundscapes, creating space for inner alignment and self-discovery. Rooted in both stillness and rhythm, each session invites you to tune in, release, and move in harmony with the present moment.
This month’s musical collaboration is held with communitarian and modular synthesist Jesse Justice, a dear friend of much of LA’s arts communities and a longtime musical partner of Qur’an Shaheed. Participation is optional, and if you just want to lay underneath the trees and listen that’s absolutely encouraged.
To continue supporting our friends affected by the Eaton Fire, a portion of today’s donations and 100% of funds from our Zapatista Coffee and limited edition art prints will be shared with Qur’an’s family.
Be well, take care of each other,
and we’ll see you at Arlington Garden!
As always, no one is ever turned away due to lack of funds.
Qur’an Shaheed is a pianist, poet, singer, songwriter, and Yoga teacher based in Pasadena. She has been playing piano since the age of four and is trained extensively in classical and contemporary music.
Qur’an is also a trained Yoga practitioner and teacher at Crenshaw Yoga & Dance, bringing together their practice of deep listening with bodily and spiritual attunement.
Jesse Justice co-runs the ever essential Preference Records, helps to manage the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, organizes incredible concerts, supports so many artists in Los Angeles, plays in the band Human Error Club, and quietly produces and engineers such wondrous sounds between his synths, samples, and modulars. His debut album Temporary is out now!
Founded in opposition to overdevelopment and the expansion of the 710 Freeway, Arlington Garden is Pasadena's only dedicated public garden. Since breaking ground 20 years ago, this three-acre urban oasis has blossomed into a vibrant wildlife habitat for Pasadena's native flora and fauna, an outdoor classroom, and the host to the only remaining orange grove along historic Orange Grove Boulevard.
We gather at Arlington Garden monthly to reconnect with the natural world and with our community. Here, we are reminded of what's possible when we come together to self-determine our collective futures through art, ecology, and the simple act of gathering among friends. This garden stands as a testament to the power of grassroots action and the transformative potential of communal stewardship.
