Randal Fisher is everywhere! From The World Stage to Tiny Desk sessions, from flute on the new Photay (& woodwinds all over More Offerings with Carlos Niño) to sax with the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, if there’s a pocket that needs a sax and a smile then Randal is already there.
For this Saturday we asked Randal to assemble an ensemble to emanate from underneath the Audubon Center’s peppercorn tree. He’s coming in hot and will be joined by Mekala Session, Diego Gaeta, and Michael Alvidrez. Between them you not only have the director of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra but a family of born x raised LA musicians who’ve worked with André 3000, Sudan Archives, Low Leaf, Shabaka Hutchings, Aloe Blacc, and so many more sonic universes.
Pull up a blanket for some of the smoothest playing in town and stay for the swaying breeze amidst the peppercorn leaves. If you haven’t already, we also highly rec this great collaborative album with Randal & Dexter Story out now on the always incredible Constellation Tatsu.
See you in the shade!

ps. this gathering is donation-based & all ages! but please leave your pups at home as we don’t want to disturb ongoing habitat restoration efforts at the audubon center.
Randal Fisher is one of the great young tenor sax players of Los Angeles and a member of essential ensembles like the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, Zhurg, and Ethio Cali. He’s a mainstay at Leimert Park’s World Stage, an ever present collaborator of Photay and Carlos Niño, and in our Living Earth home he’s a household name with a heart of gold.
Diego Gaeta is a keyboardist and producer born and raised in Los Angeles whose work blends and connects a sonic futurist approach that is informed by world folk music traditions of sacred improvisation. He recently released his debut album as a leader, titled Fearlessly Accessing the Divine Spirit of Freedom From Here On Out with Preference Records, is featured on two tracks of André 3000’s New Blue Sun, recently performed with Shabaka Hutchings, and regularly collaborates with friends like Lionmilk and Carlos Niño.
Mekala Session is a drummer, a bandleader, and the latest director for the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra (after his father, Michael Session). He’s in a band with Diego Gaeta + Jesse Justice called Human Error Club, a band with Qur’an Shaheed + Sharada Shashidhar + Caleb Buchanan called White Women, sits in with Low Leaf, Sudan Archives, and Colloboh, won an Emmy for simply being himself + keeping it real, and has the biggest smile in town.
Michael Alvidrez is a bassist from East Los Angeles who has performed in ensembles with The Peter Myers Orchestra, Charles Owens Orchestra, Ernie Andrews, Isla Eckinger, Javier Vergara, Dr. Bobby Rodriguez, Chuck Manning, Ramon Banda, and Barbara Morrison, shares much community throughout LA, and is the house bassist for the Sunday night jam session at the Central Avenue Jazz Festival.
