By Los Angeles standards, the auditorium of the Philosophical Research Society is ancient. For nearly 90 years this library of global wisdom has stood as a home for the sharing of a vast knowledge that we can study to build a better world. It’s a place of dialogue, of highlighting histories that have thrived and failed in the margins of our status quo, and for the last 5 years it’s a home that we come back to when the most potent of potions calls forth.
LOVE POCEANS is interdisciplinary healer JOJO ABOT’s upcoming album, a sacred space where song becomes prayer, presence becomes practice, and community becomes medicine. It’s an ideal we wholeheartedly find alignment and resonance within, and on August 16th we gather among friends in reverence for this new offering from JOJO ABOT.
Carlos Niño will be sitting in on percussion, Nico Georis on piano, Aaron Shaw on woodwinds, and maybe we’ll find another find along the path.

JOJO ABOT is an interdisciplinary artist and healer whose work explores themes of spirituality, identity, and community across music, film, visual art, fashion, photography, and other mediums.
With a diverse career that includes touring and performing alongside iconic artists like Miss Lauryn Hill, Esperanza Spalding, and André 3000, JOJO ABOT has also made her mark in the fine art world through collaborations with influential figures such as Marina Abramović, Theaster Gates, Carsten Höller, Alison Saar, and others.
Known for her genre-defying and medium-blurring approach, JOJO ABOT continues to captivate audiences in renowned spaces like MOMA, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, Metropolitan Opera House, Brooklyn Museum, Luna Luna, Roots Picnic, Afropunk, Greek Theater, and more.
The Philosophical Research Society is a nonprofit institution founded in 1934 by scholar and prolific author Manly Palmer Hall as a repository of multicultural wisdom sources and a center of learning. With a campus designed by architect Robert Stacy-Judd and later designated a historical-cultural site by the city of Los Angeles, PRS is “dedicated to the ensoulment of all arts, sciences, and crafts.”
Since 1934, PRS has continually offered public programs for all lovers of wisdom on a vast array of topics presented by luminary speakers. The campus includes an auditorium, bookstore, lecture room, library, and gallery, all of which facilitate a full calendar of events. The PRS School fosters a worldwide community of seekers through its courses, and the Society continues to issue new editions and anthologies of Manly Hall’s work.
PRS was created to aid those seeking wisdom in the troubled time of its inception as well as those who would continue seeking practical and profound wisdom in the future. Through depression, wars, and other public crises, PRS has sought to preserve and grow our personal connection, so that, as Mr. Hall notes, “With faith, honesty, and common sense we can build a better world than any we have known.”
