In September of 2021 we began an ongoing conversation with experimental vocalist and contemporary composer Odeya Nini.
The topic? What it means for us to inhabit and live in conversation with our environment through our voice. That question has guided us in 5 years of collaboration, from the peaks of mountains to a historic Japanese Garden, from an abandoned water tower in Malibu to a 90yr old library at the foot of Griffith Park. When you meet a fellow fanatic of exploring the acoustic resonances of natural space, you explore.
Odeya will begin at ~7p and we’ll offer tea before and after her performance, for those who’d like to sit and chat, and perhaps even watch the sunset together around 8p. If you’ve gathered with us here before you know how special this trail is and what a wonder this tunnel is for sharing music within.
FYI: Due to limited parking, capacity is limited. Please drive carefully, bring water + extra warm layers, and leave plenty of time for the slow twists and turns of the mountain road + a 10-15min walk from your car to our gathering point. We recommend picking up an adventure pass for parking & this can be purchased for $5 at the last gas station before entering the Angeles Forest. Using the body as a conduit for a flow of sound that calls out and calls upon with desire, Odeya Nini amplifies resonance, pure expression, and the dynamic dance of vocal energy. Both improvised and composed, Odeya will perform and project her voice in an invitation to join her in this sonic journey.
Odeya Nini is a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary vocalist, composer, vocal embodiment coach, and sound meditation practitioner. Her solo vocal work extends the dimension and expression of the voice and body, creating a sonic and physical panorama of silence to noise and tenderness to grandeur. She has performed internationally from concert halls to caves and is a member of the Grammy nominated ensemble Wild Up.
