We’re honoring 15yrs of Leaving Records with Los Angeles’ own legendary institution for the esoteric, the Philosophical Research Society!
The first iteration of this year’s ongoing collaboration between the PRS and Living Earth is an all out affirmation of the spirit. What began as a conversation with keyboardist & composer Nico Georis has turned into a whole-hearted community gathering lit up and amplified by our friends. Visiting us from Death Valley, Nico Georis will be playing the Philosophical Research Society’s early 1900s Steinway baby grand, before stepping into synthesizers to perform pieces from Cloud Suites, Desert Mirror, and more. The Growth Eternal are coming through as a quartet (with a plant musician!) to play a modern tribute to John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme in its entirety with vocoder, bass, guitar, and plants. Celia Hollander is weaving the evening together through the fine art of the crossfade! Wow!
Unfortunately, our bud Lachlan Turczan is no longer able to join us this evening but we’ll be with him the afternoon before for our gathering at the California Botanic Garden if you need that water art fix! Trust that we’ll reconnect these dots again soon too.
Hot tea will be available in the lobby and this gathering will be taking place indoors within the PRS’s 1950’s auditorium. The courtyard & bookstore will remain open through the night for the seekers in all of us.
Morphing seamlessly across genres, Nico Georis is a keyboard player, experimental composer & songwriter from California that produces works that are at once bracingly psychedelic and achingly nostalgic.
Despite his evident virtuosity as a trained pianist, Georis has, across numerous projects, stints, incarnations, and chapters, persisted in an exploratory approach to music-making, channelling unseen (or inaugurating altogether new) worlds through melody and repetition. He has shared marquees with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Leon Russel, Kikagaku Moyo, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, White Fence, & many others.

The Growth Eternal The Growth Eternal is a spiritual, afro-surrealist bass & vocoder music project. Tulsa, Oklahoma native Ghalani started the project in 2018, disillusioned with academia while trying to connect with his ancestral lineage through a Jazz Bass degree. Their music textures take you on an emotional journey, using sound as medicine by weaving through genres in a way that feels grounded and refreshingly innovative at the same time.
