We’re beginning our year by honing in on a blessed new improvisatory ensemble from Odeya Nini, Nicolas Snyder, and friends (Max Jaffe & Ben Lumsdaine so far!) and gathering in one of our favorite habitat restoration hubs for MMOONN’s third show. Their first was at SOLARC with Green-House, their second was at MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary, and we already know that this coming Sunday at sunset we’re in for a true treat from the cosmos.
MMOONN will soundtrack sunset (5:09p) into nightfall and we’ll go our separate ways once we’ve lost all light. Before, during, and after we’ll also have hot tea at the ready and cans of our fresh new tea collaboration brewed by friendship with our family at SOLARC. We trimmed back some of our own plants including fragrant pitcher sage, black sage, pink peppercorn, with a hint of california sagebrush (we love that cowboy cologne) for a limited edition run of MEETING OF THE SAGES that you can purchase at our upcoming gatherings or in person at SOLARC. Our first merch!?
If you simply need more music, you can bundle up at home and watch Sierra Club’s Art In Nature series featuring an episode with Odeya Nini & sit with the mind expanding music that Nicolas brings into the world through his compositional work on shows like Scavengers Reign and Common Side Effects on HBO. Ben’s a bit tougher to find online, but if you’re a fiend for International Anthem musicians like we are (go listen to his 2023 album Murmuration Without End) you can usually catch him on drums with so many musicians that we love like Jeff Parker. With many of our gatherings we’re often asked, “why only one band?” Honestly, the answer is simple… sometimes the worlds of sound created by a group of musicians are so rich, so vast, so deep to inhabit, that we really just want to focus on a single offering and the stories contained in these relationships. Our hearts are full, our spirits are satiated, and we’ll see you outdoors to gather in community for art that’s never even met an algorithm.

For 20+ years the Audubon Center at Debs Park has been a beacon for how conservation organizations can work within our cities to cultivate a deeper relationship between people and place. Through monthly hikes, restoration days, bird walks, field trips, movie nights, community festivals, and hosting gatherings like these each and every month, the Audubon Center at Debs Park has played an essential role in building a more diverse and inclusive conservation movement here in Los Angeles.
We’re so grateful for the humans of the Audubon Center, the advocacy that they champion in dialogue with local culture and native ecology, and it is an absolute honor to gather here together on the 3rd Saturday of (almost) every month.
