The birds are singing, the skies are blue, and we’ll see you in the shade of our majestic peppercorn tree friend within the Audubon Center at Debs Park for a donation-based afternoon of art and ecological attunement featuring our neighbor Odeya Nini and co-presented with Wild Up as part of their sprawling month-long series of Democracy Sessions.
The Starling murmurations are a practice of collective shapeshifting flow guided by deep sensing, inviting All to benefit from knowledge sharing, shelter, protection, and the joy of flying. What if we imagined a true collective harmony that allowed us all to soar together, individually guided? Call of the Starlings is an interdisciplinary solo vocal performance by Odeya Nini combining expressive and dynamic vocals with supportive electronic sounds inspired by the wisdom of the birds.

Odeya Nini is a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary vocalist, composer, vocal embodiment coach, and sound meditation practitioner. Her work reclaims the voice as an instrument that exists between the physical self and that which is beyond our senses, extending the resonance of vocal expression and magnifying the voice’s capacity to touch all it encounters in tender, heartbreaking, and ecstatic ways. Odeya's work has been performed in diverse venues from concert halls to galleries, tunnels, and caves and has been presented at US venues including The LA Phil, Merkin Concert Hall, The Broad Museum, and MOCA, as well as internationally in Mongolia, Madagascar, Australia and Vietnam. Odeya is the founder of Free The Voice and leads vocal sound meditations, workshops, and retreats exploring the transformative and healing qualities of embodying the voice.

For 20+ years the Audubon Center at Debs Park has been a beacon for how conservation organizations can work within our cities to cultivate a deeper relationship between people and place. Through monthly hikes, restoration days, bird walks, field trips, movie nights, community festivals, and hosting gatherings like these each and every month, the Audubon Center at Debs Park has played an essential role in building a more diverse and inclusive conservation movement here in Los Angeles.
We’re so grateful for the humans of the Audubon Center, the advocacy that they champion in dialogue with local culture and native ecology, and it is an absolute honor to gather here together on the 3rd Saturday of (almost) every month.
