Are you soil-curious? Do you love lively conversations, connecting with fellow Angelenos, and learning how we can make our city greener from the ground up?

While we lovingly await the return of Community Compost Day LA, please join us along with LA Compost and KCRW for LA Soil & Its People, an inspiring evening dedicated to exploring our vital relationship with the Earth beneath our feet. Moderated by Evan Kleiman (host of KCRW’s Good Food), this panel brings together local soil researchers, urban farmers, and community organizers to consider how urban soil impacts every part of our lives—from the food on our plates to the clothes on our backs.

Soil erosion is accelerating, but solutions are right here in our backyards. Together, we’ll explore key questions like:

  • Neighborhood Action: How can we build healthier, living soil right in our own communities?

  • Urban Connection: In a sprawling metropolis like LA, how do we nurture a deeper bond with the ground that connects us all?

  • Community Resilience: Can rebuilding our relationship with the land transform the health of both LA’s soil and its people?

Come for the insights, stay for the community, and leave with actionable ways to make a difference!

Living Earth will be supporting this free gathering with solar-powered sound, and we hope to see you hear!

A gentle reminder: please leave your adorable pups at home this afternoon as to not disrupt the Audubon Center’s ongoing habitat restoration efforts.

For 20+ years the Audubon Center at Debs Park has been a beacon for how conservation organizations can work within our cities to cultivate a deeper relationship between people and place. Through monthly hikes, restoration days, bird walks, field trips, movie nights, community festivals, and hosting gatherings like these each and every month, the Audubon Center at Debs Park has played an essential role in building a more diverse and inclusive conservation movement here in Los Angeles.

We’re so grateful for the humans of the Audubon Center, the advocacy that they champion in dialogue with local culture and native ecology, and it is an absolute honor to gather here together on the 3rd Saturday of (almost) every month.
