In An Empty Water Tower with Vocalist Odeya Nini (cancelled due to closure)

  • Malibu Creek State Park Pin Drop With RSVP (map)

(update: while visiting last week we learned that the entrance of our beloved water tower in malibu creek state park has very recently been sealed with a steel plate. this gathering has been cancelled, donations have been refunded, and we’re working with odeya to coordinate for another acoustically resonant moment together this summer)

Waaay back In September of 2021 we began a thrilling conversation with vocalist and composer Odeya Nini.

The topic? What it means for us to inhabit and live in conversation with our environment through freeing our voice. That question has guided us in 4 years of collaboration throughout LA’s most naturally resonant spaces, and this afternoon, we’re circling back to one of our all time favorites. Somewhere in Malibu Creek State Park exists one of LA’s most impermanent museums, gorgeous views, and naturally reverberant spaces all wrapped into one. It’s a bit dusty from decades of neglect, but we’re talking about a graffiti adorned empty water tower surrounded by breathtaking native habitat. It’s magical, the film history here is staggering, and we hope you’ll make the drive to join us in a place that’s very close to the heart.

The pin drop and parking directions will be in an email received upon RSVP. Arrive at least 30mins early to account for parking & the hike to the tower & catching your breath. For everyone who’s up for making a day of it, we’ll lead a hike to the infamous rock pools following Odeya’s performance. Bring your swimsuit just in case!

Using the body as a conduit for a flow of sound that calls out and calls upon with desire, Odeya Nini amplifies resonance, pure expression, and the dynamic dance of vocal energy. Both improvised and composed, Odeya will perform and project her voice in an invitation to join her in this sonic journey.

Odeya Nini is a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary vocalist, composer, vocal embodiment coach, and sound meditation practitioner. Her solo vocal work extends the dimension and expression of the voice and body, creating a sonic and physical panorama of silence to noise and tenderness to grandeur. She has performed internationally from concert halls to caves and is a member of the Grammy nominated ensemble Wild Up.
