Lace up your hiking shoes and meet us atop David Lynchโs Mulholland Drive. Every month we gather with the phenomenal environmental stewards of TreePeople whoโve planted OVER 3 MILLION TREES THROUGHOUT LA COUNTY to love on live music and hot tea on a ridge of the Santa Monica Mountains. Following a performance from some of our favorite musicians, TreePeopleโs eco educators lead several different hikes for peoples of all ages and abilities.
Soundtracking the sunset this eve is the absolutely phenomenal Hana Stretton who is visiting us from Australia. We initially learned of Hanaโs music through the praise of Phil Elverum (Mt Eerie, The Microphones) and are so wildly grateful to be able to share this evening together in song, in ecological hope, in community.
Check-in starts at 6:30pm, music shortly after 7pm, and we split into our hiking groups promptly at 8pm. Because of limited parking early registration is required.
See you on the mountain!
Hana Stretton is an accomplished Australian-British multi-instrumentalist, songwriter & producer. Born and raised on a farm in New South Wales, Hanaโs early life was steeped in natural beauty and isolation, which has become the influence for much of her music. Her work reflects a deep connection to her roots.
Hana made her debut record, Soon, outside, in still moments after fires and wild storms had raged through her home in the Australian bush. Completely isolated with just her beloved cows and a few instruments, recording music became a way to pass the hours. The album was self-released in January 2023, with a vinyl run by boutique Australian label brierfield flood press.
The following year, P.W. Elverum & Sun (the private press of Phil Elvrum aka Mount Eerie) re-issued a special edition vinyl, selling out almost instantly. Upon release, Elverum explained his admiration for Hanaโs music: โI hear an artist who has entered completely into the stream where creation originates [โฆ] Hana Stretton has truly recorded the deep flourishing sound of a quiet listening mind in full blossom.โ
