and hope to work together again soon.

Our parks are made by people! Throughout Los Angeles, our green spaces reflect the values and the determination that it takes as a community to cultivate spaces of respite from industrialization and development. A watershed example of this ethos and fight is LA State Historic Park, nestled just between Chinatown and the LA River. We’re bringing Listen To Music Outside In The Daylight Under A Tree back to LA State Historic as part of a full day of art & ecological gathering programmed by the park.

Performing live are Sharada Shashidhar & Caleb Buchanan, Human Error Club w Kenny Segal, Chris Fishman with special guests, and garrett is coming thru so if you know you know this is going to be a legendary afternoon in the sun. DJ Lady C will be spinning records throughout the afternoon & Mobius are back with their HiFi handmade sound system. Matthewdavid holds the mic to guide us through the day so pull up with a blanket, a picnic, and we’ll see you real soon.

Los Angeles State Historic Park (LASHP) is one of our city’s most high-profile and politically-charged green spaces.  The site of the former Southern Pacific Railyard, “Not A Cornfield”, and LA’s original aqueduct the Zanja Madre, the purchase of these 34 acres has been one of the most significant environmental justice victories in Los Angeles and a testament to the power of grassroots activism.

LASHP is considered the leading-edge of California State Parks’ efforts to ensure parklands and gathering space for some of the most underserved, park-poor communities in the heart of the nation’s second largest city.  Since acquiring the land in 2001, State Parks engaged the local community in an extensive series of 65+ public meetings and planning workshops during which they shared their visions for the park’s future. The State worked hand in hand with surrounding communities to develop Los Angeles State Historic Park as a space for civic dialogue, cultural celebration and historic remembrance.

This Park is Made by People
, made by our friend Rosten Woo, is a monument to the civic labor that willed the Los Angeles State Historic Park into being. It is intended to make a public record of the herculean, but often forgotten, work that goes into changing the public idea of what land could be.
