Lace up your hiking shoes and meet us atop David Lynchโs Mulholland Drive. Every 4th Friday we gather with the phenomenal stewards of TreePeople to host live music and hot tea at the edge of a ridge trail, followed by a nighttime hike guided by your local neighborhood eco educators.
Shredding for the moon and the stars this Friday is arborist and guitarist extraordinaire Lake Mary (Chaz Prymek). A true treat for Los Angeles, Chaz (also of the Fuubutsushi ensemble and curator of Yardwork) is visiting us briefly from Salt Lake City to channel his wondrous energies and light up the night. To celebrate his time in LA, Chaz has invited our dear bud and living sax legend Patrick Shiroishi (also of Fuubutsushi) into the mix, and weโre absolutely ecstatic over whatโs about to go down. Bundle up and come through ready for the most expressive and nuanced face melting in town.
Check-in starts at 6:30pm, music shortly after 7pm, and we split into our hiking groups promptly at 8 pm. Because of limited parking early registration is highly encouraged & three different hikes are held so that all ages and experience levels are welcome. See you on the mountain!
Chaz Prymek is a Salt Lake City-based guitarist, improviser, and interdisciplinary artist. Best known for his work under the moniker LAKE MARY and as a member of the โambient-jazz quartetโ FUUBUTSUSHI. His music, which bridges fingerstyle guitar, ambient, and free improvisation, delves into the spaciousness of deep emotional narratives and personal hymns.
Prymekโs long-form compositions and improvisations for acoustic, electric, and lap-steel guitars are boundless meditations on landscapes and riverways, as well as reflections on what it means to be human. His work has resulted in nearly two dozen solo and collaborative releases, featured on labels such as Whited Sepulchre, Keeled Scales, Laaps Records, Aural Canyon, Ramble Records, and more.
Patrick Shiroishi is a Japanese-American multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles who is perhaps best known for his extensive and incredibly intense work with the saxophone. Over the last decade he has established himself as one of the premier improvising musicians in Los Angeles, playing solo and in numerous collaborative projects including Wild Up, Fuubutsushi, The Armed, and many more inspiring projects.
Shiroishi may well be considered a foundational player in the cityโs vast musical expanse.
Since the release of his 2013 solo debut black sun sutra, Shiroishi has produced a hefty handful of LPs. Sometimes, his work is sprawling and bizarre. At other times, itโs more subdued. But at the root of all of his endeavors lies strong musical partnerships, resulting in records that capture the freewheeling energy of all the musicians, collectively embracing spontaneity.
He currently hosts a show on dublab called Tangled.
