While some of the Bob Baker Marionette Theater are in the desert performing at Coachella, we’re staying back and going all out for the real beginning of festival season… Bob Baker Day 🎪
See you in LA State Historic Park on April 12th for a full day of celebrating the historic legacy of our dear Bob Baker Marionette Theater, the longest running puppet theater in the country. There’s revelry, puppet shows, live music, games, vendors of all varieties, people on stilts, David Arquette’s Bozo The Clown, and so much joyous absurdity to heal the heart. Previous years we’ve been treated to Grand Marshals like brilliant Imagineer Bob Gurr, the late Sid Krofft (Land of the Lost, H.R. Pufnstuf), DJ Lance Rock of Yo Gabba Gabba!, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, and last year’s Spongebob & Patrick.
For this 12th annual Bob Baker Day we’re helping to program the Hooray LA! stage and sprinkle some friends into the mix of roaming performances. We’re also leaving our own solar batteries at home and partnering with our buds at SOLARPUNKS to solar power all three stages of Bob Baker Day!
Come say hi! We’ll be running sound all day and have a very special series of performances planned with Holy Pepperoni, San Cha, Logan Hone, Jonny Kosmo, Freak Nature Puppets, and more.
Bob Baker Marionette Theater is an iconic Los Angeles institution that has served our communities with creativity, joy, and imagination since 1963. They are the longest continuous running puppet theater in the United State, a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, and for more than 60 years have worked to preserve, educate, and innovate at the intersection of Puppetry and the Allied Arts.
The Bob Baker Marionette Theater is home to more than 3,000 puppets, one of LA’s greatest archives of both puppet history and novelty music, and have played an essential role in entertainment culture outside of the theater having worked on everything from Mister Rogers Neighborhood to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
In addition to collaborating on concerts together within their historic theater, Living Earth has been a production partner for Bob Baker Day at LA State Historic Park since 2024.
