Where better to watch one of the great avian disaster films than within the gorgeous courtyard of the Audubon Center at Debs Park? Every summer our friends of the Audubon Center host a summer movie series, and after multiple summers of talking about hosting music before a screening we’re finally doing.

On July 31st the Audubon Center stays open late for a free family-friendly screening of the epic disasterpiece that is Jurassic Park. The popcorn is free and there’s activities for all ages, just bring your own blanket and set up camp.

We thought long and hard about a local musician with bite, a deep love for Los Angeles, who holds a soft spot for golden-era Amblin films, and are so wildly grateful that the brilliant weirdo ripper himself Randy Randall is pulling up to share music with us this evening. We love No Age and all that they’ve meant for LA, but for years Randy’s solo music has provided nuanced and considered explorations of a changing city. Whether finding inspiration in local ecology, the built environment, or social implications like the silence that washed over the city in 2020, Randy wields his guitar like a brush to paint a portrait that reflects our times. The last time we collaborated was upon the sacred grounds of Zorthian Ranch and we’re so excited to hear what he’s been up to.

Activities and doors are at 6p, music around 7p, movie time at sunset so let’s say 8p

🕊

a gentle reminder: please leave your adorable pups at home this afternoon as to not disrupt the Audubon Center’s ongoing habitat restoration efforts.

For 20+ years the Audubon Center at Debs Park has been a beacon for how conservation organizations can work within our cities to cultivate a deeper relationship between people and place. Through monthly hikes, restoration days, bird walks, field trips, movie nights, community festivals, and hosting gatherings like these each and every month, the Audubon Center at Debs Park has played an essential role in building a more diverse and inclusive conservation movement here in Los Angeles.

We’re so grateful for the humans of the Audubon Center, the advocacy that they champion in dialogue with local culture and native ecology, and it is an absolute honor to gather here together on the 3rd Saturday of (almost) every month.
